Busy Day

I had a bit of a busy day today. I had to get ready for a hiking trip tomorrow, do groceries, and put everything away. After that there was the TGIO party for the National Novel Writing month effort. I felt I should go considering how I missed the start party due stuff. Since I was going to the kayaking pool session, I had to gather all my stuff together and make sure I had a dry towel. Since there was going to be little time between the TGIO party and the pool session, I just wore my pool stuff under my jacket and pants. It was a little odd wearing a thin neoprene top but worth not having to worry about changing later. It was nice to see people again. I find that I didn't really have time last month to really make it to the write-in sessions. I think after December I should be able to start having time again.

It started to snow today. I haven't seen any snow yet in the DC area, so this was the first instance that I know of. It was mostly a light dusting that eventually stopped then melted but it was still quite nice. It was also quite nice to soak in the hot tub after pool session. A couple of us went to Gordon Biersch for food and beer afterwards which was fun. I ended up getting back to my place quite late and I wasn't sure I was going to find parking nearby. I lucked out and found a spot on the next street, so I didn't have to carry my wet gear too far. Tomorrow is going to be an early day and a long hike.

Another Successful NaNo

Another successful attempt at National Novel Writing Month. This time I wrote about my adventures along the Appalachian Trail. I hope to edit this and add in some pictures. I was a little worried near the end, I had run out of trail days but I still had words left. This was a departure from my first year participating when I ran out of words, but still had story left. I ended up finishing the story the following year. I did find out that once again the people who run National Novel Writing Month have managed to get a deal again to allow last year's winners to get a free printing of their novel. I am going to have to go back through it and trim a little bit of the fluff, but it will be so cool to have a novel sitting on my shelf with my name on it.

Yeah, Finished!!

So once again I finished my NaNo challenge of 50,000 words in 30 days.  Actually I managed to finish in less than 30 days owing to a late and slow start followed by a blaze of glory over Thanksgiving.  A blaze of glory that allowed me to finish 20,000 words in two days leaving me with the story finished and my wrists hurting.  Yes, I did know better, but I was in a groove and wanted to finish.  I will be nice to my wrists over the next little while to give then a chance to heal.  This year was a success on two fronts.  Not only did I finish the word goal but I actually ran out of story.  I managed to tied up most of the loose ends and any untied ends where likely forgotten since last years NaNo event.  I would like to start editing but I get the feeling that will not be happening.  I will be trying to give my wrists a back a well deserved break.  Not that sitting and reading on the sofa has been better for my back but it is better for my wrists.

Over the four day break I used two to finish writing and the other two to drive myself crazy.  Since I didn't have anything planned, I was absolutely bored out of my head.  I guess I don't deal with down time very well.  I did pick up a few things at the store to continue working on the paddle.  I also avoided Black Friday.  There was no way I was going to deal with either the traffic or the people.  Writing was a good excuse to stay in.
